A Return to Doodling
Alternate title: how to wedge in creativity when you have little time to spare
Blocks of time for sustained creative effort are still hard to come by, but the CreativeBug class I mentioned in my last post has renewed my enjoyment of doodling. I’ve taken to using the 30 seconds here and 30 seconds there that I have during my workday (usually when a document is converting to PDF) to jot down some squiggles and lines in a pleasing manner. It’s a satisfying way to use an otherwise frustrating pause in my document-wrangling day job.
On a completely unrelated note, I recently finished the book “How to Keep House While Drowning” by K.C. Davis. It focuses on household organization and cleaning but in a notably different way than most books in this genre. K.C. intentionally separates morality from the tasks (which she refers to as ‘care tasks’), compassionately acknowledges how mental health struggles may impact care tasks, and also is written with neurodivergent people in mind (chapters are very short, the main point is clearly stated, all metaphors are translated to their literal meaning). It’s SO different than other organization books I’ve ever read, and it was really refreshing! An enjoyable, short read (I listened to the audiobook).
