When do ruby throated hummingbirds start migrating?
These tiny, fierce birds migrate to Mexico and Central America for the winter. I haven't seen them lately, so I will take down their feeder and put out our suet feeder for the cold months.
October marks the beginning of my annual spooky reading spree. I love having a themed month for my reading and it makes the transition to cooler weather and darker evenings feel ‘right’ instead of sad. Here’s what is on the list so far:
Still Life by Louise Penny (completed)
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches (completed; not scary at all but the witchiness of it made it thematically appropriate)
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold (in progress)
Maybe a Stephen King
A Clive Barker
Folly by Laurie R. King
If the library has them available soon enough: Local Woman Missing and Jar of Hearts
Depending on how scared I am, I will have to sprinkle in some light and fun books too, ha! If you are a fan of the spooky, I would highly recommend one of my very favorite podcasts: Spooked. I love it so much. Not all of them are super scary, but there are a few that have totally terrified me. To be honest, this podcast is responsible for my belief in ghosts!
