Trapper keeper
For some reason I feel like a trapper keeper would fix all my desk disorganization problems (i.e., scraps of paper everywhere).
In the fiction class I’m taking, we’re digging into the craft of writing with the help of the following books:
A Swim in the Pond in the Rain by George Saunders (et al)
How Fiction Works by James Wood
Steering the Craft by Ursula K. LeGuin
The first book by George Saunders is my favorite as it dissects short stories (all translated from Russian), in a humorous and non-snooty way. I have found this book incredibly insightful and eye-opening. And George seems like a genuinely delightful fellow, so I was tickled when he popped up in my podcast feed this past week. He was interviewed by one of my favorite folks to follow: Adam Grant. Adam is an organizational psychologist who has written several books and hosts the podcast “Work Life”. I highly recommend his podcast in general, and if you are interested in hearing an interview with George Saunders, take a listen to the episode called “The art of rough drafts with George Saunders”.
