Building in creativity
as part of my 24 for 2024 list
For the last few years, I’ve made a list of goals/tasks/activities for the year instead of traditional resolutions. Gretchen Rubin, who I have mentioned here before, inspires this practice. Gretchen and her sister make a list of goals each year that are a mixture of fun, serious, personal, and professional that correspond to the year number (hence 24 in 2024). If you want to hear about their 24 for 2024 lists, you can listen to this podcast episode.
I wanted to share the creative goals that I’ve incorporated into my 24 for 2024 list:
Sign up for 2 writing workshops (workshops TBD)
Submit poetry 50 times (one already completed)
Read 40 books (sub-goal #1: 12 books of poetry, sub-goal #2: mostly physical books)
12 Creativebug classes (to play around with different creative mediums)
12 artist dates (in the spirit of The Artist’s Way)
Explore poems on a theme each quarter
Complete a 100-day project
My hope is that these goals help me sustain a consistent creative practice throughout the year.
Currently reading: Hunt, Gather, Parent by Michaeleen Doucleff — I started this book in 2023 but neglected to finish it before the library loan expired. The same thing might happen again if I’m being honest!
Recent internet search of note: Inside of deer antler
The nose of my beagle recently found some shed deer antlers in our neighborhood. They were so freshly shed that a chunk of tissue was next to them, and I think it was from the inside of the antler?? Google image search has not confirmed as of yet.
ICYMI: My poem “Brood X” was published in December 2023
